On July 8, 2024, the owners of SERVPRO of CHHM - Jeff Miller, Casey Freeman, and Joey Hale - swung into action at the annual SERVPRO Golf Tournament. This event kicked off a week of learning and networking opportunities for SERVPRO® franchise owners from across the country.
While the tournament promises a day of friendly competition on the greens, it represents much more than just a game of golf. It's a prime example of how SERVPRO brings its franchise owners together, fostering an environment of shared learning and collaboration.
"These events are invaluable," says Jeff Miller. "They give us a chance to connect with other owners, share experiences, and learn from each other's successes and challenges."
The tournament serves as a prelude to the main event - the SERVPRO Convention in Nashville, TN, running from July 8-12. This annual gathering is a cornerstone of SERVPRO's commitment to continuous improvement and education for its franchise owners.

Celebrating Independence Day and Honoring a Local Vet

As we approach the 4th of July, we at SERVPRO of CHHM are filled with pride for our nation and gratitude for those who have served to protect our freedoms. This year, our Independence Day celebration takes on special significance as we also honor one of our own - Joey Hale, co-owner of SERVPRO of CHHM, who is retiring from the United States Air Force after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
Joey’s passion to serve began early, leading him to the United States Air Force, where he served faithfully since 2003. In his active duty military career, he deployed 70 times directly supporting two past Secretaries of Defense and, indirectly, the Presidents over them; including a deployment under Operation Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force Katrina. During his service, he has exemplified the core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. His unwavering commitment to our nation's defense has been an inspiration to all of us at SERVPRO of CHHM and to the wider community.
As we gather with family and friends this 4th of July, lighting up the sky with fireworks and enjoying summer barbecues, let's take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by servicemen and women like Joey. Their dedication ensures that we can continue to celebrate our independence and enjoy the freedoms we hold dear.
While Joey's military career may be coming to a close, his service to our community continues through his work with SERVPRO of CHHM. The leadership skills, discipline, and dedication he honed in the Air Force are evident in his approach to helping our customers recover from disasters and return their properties to their former glory.
This 4th of July, we invite our community to join us in not only celebrating our nation's independence but also in honoring Joey Hale's remarkable career in the Air Force. Partnership for Success at SERVPRO CHHM

In May of 2023, Joey Hale and Casey Freeman partnered with business owner, Jeff Miller, at SERVPRO CHHM – Chester, Hardin, Henderson & McNairy counties.
Freeman has been working in the business full-time as a General Manager/owner; and oversees the customer database. Hale is serving in a strategic role, as a new owner, developing strategic partnerships and building efficient processes for the company to meet the needs of West Tennessee’s growth.
Freeman is well-known in the construction industry in West Tennessee and has decades of experience at Lowe’s helping contractors on thousands of jobs. Freeman will begin on March 20, 2023, as a working owner and project manager. His reputation for customer care will be a vital component to SERVPRO CHHM’s growth in the coming years, according to current owner, Jeff Miller.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to build this business and serve families in West Tennessee,” said Casey Freeman, Project Manager/Owner SERVPRO CHHM, “Jeff has a great reputation, and I look forward to working every day to meet the needs of our clients and build more relationships in all the counties we serve.”
Joey Hale, an entrepreneur, and owner of Town & Country Realtors, has purchased and successfully restructured a 50-plus-year-old business. Hale plans to play a strategic role in recruiting talent, budgeting, tax planning, and developing processes at SERVPRO CHHM, while making strategic partnerships with local businesses, churches, hotels, and others.
“I’m always looking for growth opportunities so when Jeff and I began talking about the strategies to meet the growing construction needs of West Tennessee, I was excited to jump in,” said Joey Hale, Owner SERVPRO CHHM.
SERVPRO CHHM was previously locally owned and operated by Jeff Miller, a career fireman.

BE PREPARED! Things you can do now that will make your home disaster claim go smoother

- Make an inventory list
- Go through each room of your home and take photos from each corner. Note the photos, art and other possessions. Take close-ups of items of exceptional value, whether sentimental or financial.
- List items on a spreadsheet, include model and serial numbers, manufacture dates, and other pertinent information.
- Include a general estimate of the quantity of everyday items like silverware, linens, and even clothing items. Ex: 10 Men’s T-shirts - XL, 4 men’s dress slacks - Size 34/32
- Scan or photograph important documents and save onto a flash drive.
These can help you obtain replacement documents, or file claims in the event your originals are destroyed. Don’t forget to include your inventory list. NOTE: keep this drive in a safe, fireproof location, or in a safe deposit box at the bank. Be sure to update the files every year, or any time something changes.
- Don’t hold on to junk!
Get rid of unused, broken, or unwanted items as soon as possible. When you have damage to your home, some or all of your contents, down to canned goods and refrigerated items, may have to be removed (and inventoried) during repairs. Save yourself and your SERVPRO technicians some time by throwing out or donating your unused items regularly.
- Schedule an insurance review with your agent.
Familiarize yourself with your coverages, limits, deductibles, and exclusions. Talking with your agent and asking questions ahead of time, will prevent unexpected and unwelcome surprises at claim time. Many times we depend on our agents to have us “fully covered”, but everyone is different, and so are our insurance needs.
- Lastly, if something should happen – DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!

10 Essential Tasks You Can Do In A Weekend To Prepare For Colder Weather

It’s that time of year when things begin to cool down and all the activities of summer are wrapping up. Take the time to do these simple chores now, so you can relax and enjoy the cooler seasons.
- Clean your gutters – You know, you were going to do it this spring, but it was just too nice outside for chores. Well now’s the time to get those leaves cleaned out to prevent leaks and gutter deterioration. Hey, while you’re up there, take a look around on the roof. Check for missing or damaged shingles which can allow heat to escape, and water to seep in.
- Inspect and clean the furnace – Cleaning your furnace will ensure it’s running at optimal performance in the cold winter months. Be sure to inspect wiring and other moving parts for wear or damage.
- Inspect duct work – When it finally cools off a little, slip under the house or in your attic and check out the ducts. Clean and intact ducts will keep that warm air flowing throughout your home, and without those pesky bugs and viruses.
- Light up the early dark – Replace bulbs in your outside light fixtures, or install new, solar powered lights to help prevent accidents when you’re getting home after dark.
- Check for leaks – Check doors, window sills, and any other drafty areas that may allow your nice warm air to escape to the outside world. Caulk where you can, and throw a draft stopper under your exterior doors.
- Put your ceiling fans in reverse – Most ceiling fans have a switch for this. Switch to a clockwise rotation to push warm air down.
- Inspect and clean the chimney – Clean the soot and smoke from the chimney and check for cracks, gaps or other problems (birds’ nest, etc.). Check the flue for proper function.
- Change your air return filters and smoke or carbon monoxide detector batteries - Clean filters allows better air flow throughout your home so your furnace or central unit won’t have to work as hard.
- Inspect and insulate your pipes – Check for leaks, cracks or weak spots in your plumbing. Freezing temperatures can cause big problems for weak or cracked pipes. Go ahead and throw some insulation around them. You don’t want to be crawling around fixing leaks in those freezing temperatures.
- Let the sunshine in – open your curtains or blinds in the daytime to allow that warm sunshine to help warm your home, but be sure to close them at night to keep the cool night air from seeping in.

As a project manager, an employee, and a co-worker, Shawn brings integrity, excellence, and laughter to all. • Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.
• Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry.

• Maintain a written complaint policy and agree to Better Business Bureau or similar arbitration to resolve disputes, and accept the conclusions and recommendations of arbitration.
