Your Springtime Chore List Made Simple
3/22/2021 (Permalink)
Relax and unwind knowing SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties has your back!
Spring is here! While the blooming flowers and green grass can be a refreshing change from the cold, it’s also a great time to do some chores you’ve been putting off. Here’s our take on the most important spring chores, and a few pro tips to help make your life easier.
- Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. We don’t need to tell you how important this is!
- Conduct a thorough outside inspection of your home and property. Check the foundation for cracks or leaks. Check decks, windows and doors for any repairs needed. Take a stroll around the yard and fencing to check for ankle-twisting holes or fencing repairs that need to be done.
- Clean and install window screens. Keep the critters and insects outside while enjoying the comfortable breezes of spring.
- Inspect and clean appliances. Check for water leaks, broken wires, filter replacements and any other problems. Pull appliance away from the wall and thoroughly clean lint and dust buildup. While you’re at it, go ahead and clean out your dryer vents. Not only are full vents a fire hazard, but they cause your dryer to work harder, which could lead to costly repairs or even replacement.
- Clear the gutters and downspouts. Fall leaves can fill gutters quickly, and cause poor draining, as well as damage the gutters themselves.
PRO TIP! - While you’re on the ladder, take a quick look at the roof. Check for missing or damaged shingles, satellite dish connections and attic vents.
- Clean ceiling fans and light fixtures. Remove and wash globes, replace blown bulbs and wipe down the surfaces. Be on the lookout for broken or burnt wiring and components.
PRO TIP! Check to make sure your ceiling fan blades are spinning clockwise to pull warmer air up and out. In the fall, reverse direction to push the warmer air down toward the floor.
- Clean the patio, grill, and outdoor furniture. Pressure wash the patios, porches and decks. Empty ashes and scrape grill racks. Check gas grills and tanks for leaks. Wipe down outdoor furniture and cushions, and add some new pillows or accents in bright, fun colors.
PRO TIP! On wooden surfaces, be sure to spray with the grain of wood to prevent splintering and damage. If water doesn’t bead up on the surface, it may be time to reseal.
- Perform maintenance on your mower and yard equipment. Inspect blades and belts, check the spark plugs, and change the oil and filters if applicable. Wind some new string in your weed trimmer.
PRO TIP! Never cut off more than a third of the length of a blade of grass. Leaving some length will keep the roots shaded and promote deeper roots and promote fullness.
PRO TIP! When mowing on a hill, mow up and down with a riding mower, and mow across when using a push-mower.
PRO TIP! Water your grass in the early morning to allow the sun to help with drying. Prolonged moisture on the blades can lead to disease and deteriorate the beautiful lawn you’ve worked so hard to grow.

House Fire? What to do when the smoke clears...
1/28/2020 (Permalink)
This dining room was affected heavily by smoke damage. Our SERVPRO heroes are trained and equipped to sort it out and clean it up. Give us a call!
Once the flames are out and everyone’s accounted for, the long road to recovery begins. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed, there are many resources available to help you get through it. Here’s a basic to-do list to help you get started.
- Make sure the house has been cleared and deemed safe for entry.
- DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING! Don’t attempt to remove or clean anything. Fire damage and especially soot and smoke damage can be difficult to clean. Also, oils from your skin or any other cleaning products could cause further damage, and even ruin your belongings. It’s best to leave the clean up to the professionals.
- Contact your insurance company as soon as possible to get your claim started. An adjuster will most likely need to visit the home to assess the damage.
- Document everything. While we don’t recommend you touch or move anything, it is important to keep a list, with photos where possible, of ruined or damaged items. This will help you and your insurance company make sure the items get replaced.
- Finally, call SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties. We’ll handle the rest! We’ll work with your insurance company and you to get your home cleaned, repaired and restored as quickly as possible. We’ll pack, inventory and clean your belongings using our SERVPRO exclusive products and training. Don’t worry, we’ll take special care of your trinkets and treasures. Finally, when repairs are complete and the cleaning is done, we’ll return your cleaned contents, and even help you unpack!

Indoor Air Pollution and Air Sampling
1/27/2020 (Permalink)
We’re all aware of the toxic chemicals that are labeled as poisons, and to be cautious about our exposure to them, but what about those seemingly harmless products that can cause their own nasty symptoms? Things like household cleaners, paints, cosmetics and even furnishings and clothing can cause indoor air pollution.
Been feeling a little nauseous, congested or fatigued with no explanation or underlying cause? Do you have an odor, but you can’t quite find the source? Are you remodeling? Upgrading or replacing your HVAC system? Have you recently had some sort of damage or disaster in or around your home? If you answered yes to any of these, then indoor air testing may be a good choice. SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy counties is trained, qualified and able to collect air samples, and perform remediation based on your test results.
Our testing can detect several pollutants in the air, including VOC’s (volatile organic compounds), mold spores, pet dander, and others. We’ll then provide you with a full lab report, including findings, normal levels, and protocols for treatment.

Mold...and what you can do about it.
1/23/2020 (Permalink)
If you find mold in your home, don’t disturb or attempt to clean it. Leave the area, close off A/C vents, and call SERVPRO at 731-983-0883!
Mold is a naturally occurring substance and is present most everywhere, indoors and outside. However, mold inside your home can cause some serious problems if left untreated. Keep in mind that mold spores are microscopic and many are airborne. This means it’s virtually impossible to completely remove mold from every surface. You can remediate mold to a safe level and prevent further growth. Here are some things to remember regarding mold growth:
- Mold spores thrive on moisture and can grow within 48 hours of exposure to any kind of moisture - from water damage, to humidity, to the misguided attempts to remove mold using bleach and other products.
- Mold spores can enter your home through an infinite number of ways; including open doors and windows, pets, A/C systems, and even on your clothes. There is really no way to prevent mold spores from entering your home, but you can take measures to prevent it from colonizing and becoming a problem.
- Most mold species have a strong odor which can alert you to possible problem areas. A musty, stale odor needs to be investigated.
- If you find mold in your home, don’t disturb or attempt to clean it. The untrained person can inadvertently feed or spread mold spores by attempting to clean or remove visible mold from surfaces. It’s best to call a trained professional who has safe and effective procedures for mold remediation.
SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties is trained and certified in effective mold remediation, and we’re here to help you 24/7.

Bio-Hazard Cleaning and why it’s important to call a professional…
9/11/2019 (Permalink)
At SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson, and McNairy Counties,we're prepared for any situation. Call us today!
First, a professional cleaning company will have training, equipment and all the proper chemicals to remove, clean or restore contaminated materials safely and legally. Speaking of legally, state and federal guidelines require proper disposal and transport of certain hazardous materials, and if you get caught handling things improperly, it could cost you thousands of dollars in fines.
Also, most insurance policies provide coverage for these situations. We'll be happy to work with your insurance company to handle your claim quickly and easily.
Bio-Hazard Types:
TRAUMA/DEATH – In addition to the emotional toll this type of scene can cause, there are significant health risks. Blood and tissue can carry a multitude of infectious diseases. Drug-related trauma or death can carry exposure risks to dangerous or deadly drugs through blood or contaminated needles/syringes and other delivery devices. Death itself, poses it’s own problems. Upon death, decomposition begins which releases toxic chemicals that can contaminate surfaces in the immediate area. SERVPRO technicians are trained and equipped to properly dispose of and/or clean affected areas.
HOARDING – There are many variations of hoarding situations, but most become unsanitary over time. It can be a bit overwhelming to enter the home of a loved one to find stacks of everything, from clothing, to animals (and their messes), to trash and dirty dishes piled to the ceiling. Even if the trash isn’t stacked in every corner, often times items sit untouched for days, months or years. This would allow dust, mold, and pests to infest those areas causing all sorts of potential health risks. Sadly, many items that the “hoarder” is emotionally attached to, become unsalvageable. SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties has experience with even the worst of hoarding situations, and we’re here to help.
SEWAGE BACKUP – Sewage backup can be cause by a clogged pipe, or even local flooding. Raw sewage can contain fecal matter and other bodily fluids which can cause a multitude of diseases and health problems. Floodwaters often contain raw sewage as well as other harmful contaminants, so flooding should also be treated as a bio-hazard.
In any case, bio-hazards should be contained and treated by professionals to avoid any danger to individuals in or near contaminated areas, those who handle waste, and those who live and work near any contaminated area. SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties is here to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call us with any situation and watch us make it “Like it never even happened.”
Call SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties today! 731-983-0883
Unfortunately, when you have this type of situation, you need someone immediately. You need someone with the proper training and proper equipment, and you need someone who can treat you, your home or business, and those around you with respect and dignity. If tragedy strikes around you, give us a call. We'll start the process right away, send qualified and compassionate technicians, and we'll work with your insurance company.
SERVPRO “TEAMS UP” WITH LOCAL STUDENTS FOR A GOOD CAUSE
7/3/2019 (Permalink)
Here at SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties, we care about our community and our neighbors. We recently teamed up with some local students to make a difference in the lives of two families. In the process of working a recent fire loss, one of our associates opened his heart and came up with a beautiful way to support a friend in need, and get some work done!
Due to the extent of fire and smoke damage, one particular home was going to be completely stripped down to the studs and rebuilt. Our associate’s son had been talking to him about his friend, whose mother was recently diagnosed with cancer and no longer able to work. Due to medical treatments, travel and everyday life, the family was struggling financially. So our associate rallied the troops and made a plan! Several friends of the young man, along with their fathers, volunteered their time and muscles to complete the “tearing out phase”.
When we proposed our plan to the homeowner, she was moved by the generosity of the boys. So with her permission, they went to work and cleared the structure in a long day’s work. SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties donated all proceeds from the demolition to the young man and his family. Work was done, lessons were learned, and memories were made. Two families were helped, and multiple hearts were touched. It was a great day that none of us will soon forget.
Water Damage Claims Explained! Here's What You Can Expect...
6/24/2019 (Permalink)
Never Fear! SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties is here to help you navigate your water damage claim.
Water damage to your home, regardless of the cause, can be a nightmare to understand. You’ll have to deal with insurance, adjusters, contractors, and your house might be a complete mess. Sometimes, just understanding the process and the lingo can make it a lot easier on the distraught homeowner. Here’s a basic rundown of what happens when SERVPRO responds to your water damage.
The first thing that generally happens is that you come home from work, or wake up in the morning to find water standing, or worse, spewing from a faulty pipe, toilet, or other plumbing fixture. Now you’re not sure what to do, but never fear, here’s what happens next…
STEP ONE: Turn off the water at the source of the leak if possible. If you’re not sure of the source, or not able to shut off water to it, then turn it off at the outside main. The faster you can stop the water from coming in, the less damage will occur.
STEP TWO: Call your insurance company. Get your claim started as soon as possible to prevent delays in getting your home repaired.
STEP THREE: Call in a plumber or the necessary professional to stop the leak and correct the problem. Clean up and repair cannot begin until the leak has been stopped. Most insurance companies don’t cover the “cause of loss” (the leaking pipe or faulty appliance), but they do cover the damage caused by it. More than likely, the plumber or other professional’s repair bill will be an out-of-pocket expense.
STEP FOUR: Call SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties. We’ll take all your information and dispatch a crew to begin extracting any standing water, tearing out damaged materials, and set drying equipment.
This is known as the mitigation phase of the claim. Keep in mind, the mitigation phase is only to mitigate, or stop, further damage. We will tear out flooring and/or drywall only to find the “dry line”, or the place where the water damage stops, which may not be the entire room or space.
Once we’ve removed all the water and damaged materials, we’ll set drying equipment to dry any structural material that was affected by water. The drying phase usually takes 3-5 days, during which we’ll monitor the moisture level at regular intervals to ensure things are drying properly. This concludes the mitigation phase, and most insurance companies issue payment to the mitigation provider directly, although sometimes the policyholder’s name will be listed on the check also, and will need to be endorsed by you. However, each insurance company is different, so check with your own provider regarding their process.
During the drying phase, SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties, or your preferred contractor, will build the repair estimate and submit to your insurance company. Typically, your deductible is applied on this estimate, as opposed to the mitigation portion, but again, companies vary, so check with your adjuster.
STEP FIVE: Once drying is complete, and a repair estimate has been approved by your insurance company, repairs can begin. Insurance companies typically will replace entire rooms of flooring, so if, during mitigation we only removed partial flooring in a given room, the remainder will be removed and the entire floor replaced. If you’ve chosen SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties to complete your repairs, we will discuss with you each aspect of the repairs, and help you choose flooring, paint colors, etc. based on the allowance given by your insurance company. Repair time can vary depending on the extent of damage and the availability of materials, but rest assured, it’ll soon be back to “Like it never even happened.”
Finally, once repairs are completed, you’ll need to sign our “Certificate of Satisfaction” stating we completed all repairs according to the approved estimate. Payment can then be issued by your insurance company. If you have a mortgage, the check may need to be endorsed by the mortgagee, and/or you, the homeowner, prior to being remitted to SERVPRO. If you have a deductible, it will be payable at this time as well. Don’t worry, though, our office personnel are here to help you with that process as well.

Pipes Burst??? Here's What To Do!
1/30/2019 (Permalink)
SERVPRO heroes combined with our SERVPRO-exclusive equipment quickly makes your water damage seem "Like it never even happened."
Here’s a little story for you…
Once upon a time there was a young couple who had recently purchased their first home just outside the city limits. The high temperature had remained in the twenties for a few days now, but not today. Today’s forecast called for a beautiful day full of sunshine and a high of forty-seven! Finally – it would be bearable outside and cozy inside.
As the wife arrived home from work, she noticed a hissing sound as she unlocked the front door. As she walked down the hallway past the bathroom, the hissing got louder and with each step she heard a squishing sound. As she discovered the squishing sound was wet carpet, she suddenly realized what was going on. But just to be sure, she quickly turned on the faucet in the sink. She was correct. There was little water pressure, which meant that somewhere a pipe had burst and was leaking water.
What many people don’t realize is that when a pipe freezes, it can remain intact until the frozen water begins to thaw, as the water begins to move again, the leak makes itself apparent. Spraying water in some random direction, soaking down anything from the dirt under the house, to the flooring and carpet just above. Either way, here’s what to do when you find yourself in this situation.
First things first – SHUT OFF THE WATER SUPPLY!
This will ease the pressure on the pipes and allow the water to drain slowly and hopefully cause less damage.
Next – Call a licensed plumber to find and repair the broken pipe.
Last but not least - call SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties!
Our 24-hour response team will immediately start the drying process. We’ll remove your belongings quickly to prevent any further damage, then we’ll tear out damaged flooring and drywall. Finally, we’ll set our exclusive SERVPRO drying equipment to begin drying the structure (subfloor and wall studs). We’ll work with your insurance company and adjuster to determine what’s covered under your policy, and help you understand every step along the way.
Ask about our SERVPRO exclusive document drying system to save your most important and irreplaceable documents!!!

How much do you know about Thanksgiving?
11/9/2018 (Permalink)
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties!
Americans aren’t the only ones who celebrate Thanksgiving
- Canada’s Thanksgiving is celebrated during the second week in October, and marks the successful harvest of the French settlers
- The Harvest Thanksgiving Festival in Germany, also observed in October, consists of feasting and religious celebrations.
- In Japan, the people observe Labor Thanksgiving Day, which began as a harvest festival, but in modern times has become a celebration of labor, production, and thankfulness.
- In The Netherlands, Thanksgiving Day is in honor of the Pilgrims that lived in Leiden before continuing on to Plymouth.
Our favorite things about Thanksgiving:
The Food:
- Our top three favorite Thanksgiving dishes are turkey, followed by stuffing, with pumpkin pie rounding out third.
- The average person will consume around 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving! That’s more than double what we eat on a typical day. It’s no wonder we love our afternoon naps as much as we love the turkey!
- TV dinners were invented due to an ordering error at Swanson. They had 260 tons of extra turkey! A salesman for the company suggested they pack it in aluminum trays with all the trimmings like sweet potatoes and corn. They sold over 10 million packages that first year, and a star was born.
- We love our leftovers! 80% of Americans say they enjoy the leftovers more than the actual meal.
The Football:
Every Thanksgiving since 1934 The Detroit Lions have hosted a football game. That year, they played the Chicago Bears in front of a crowd of 26,000. The first televised game was in 1956. The Chicago Bears have also made a tradition of playing football on Thanksgiving. Most recently, a third NFL game has been scheduled as well, but the teams alternate each year.
The Festivities:
- Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is watched by around 44 million every year. The first parade was held in 1924 and was 2 city blocks in length. There were no giant balloons, only live animals from the Central Park Zoo. Today, the parade stretches for 2.5 miles and more than 3 million spectators line the streets of New York. Macy’s idea was to promote the holiday shopping season.
- Speaking of shopping! Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. 102 million people shop til they drop, spending an average of $300 per person. In more recent years, Amazon and other online retailers have extended the shopping spree through Cyber Monday, when the best deals online can be found. In 2011, Wal-Mart broke tradition and opened on the evening of Thanksgiving, with many other retailers following suit. Many shoppers have adopted a new tradition of shopping as soon as the dishes are cleared.
It’s great to be a plumber during Thanksgiving weekend !
Plumbers boast this as their busiest time of the year. It seems all the extra dish-washing, showering , and laundry that visiting family members can add, puts a little stress on the plumbing. Put away a few bucks for repairs if you’re hosting this year’s Thanksgiving feast!
AND MOST OF ALL, WE’RE THANKFUL!
According to a recent Harris poll, Americans are most thankful for family, health, and freedom, respectively.
SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties is not only thankful for these things, but for the opportunity to be of service to those in our communities when they are most in need. We wish for all to be happy and healthy during this season of thanks. But when disaster strikes, we’re here to help.

Most Common Causes of House Fires and How To Prevent Them
10/26/2018 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties is certified in fire damage restoration. Call us today at 731-983-0883!
According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), US Fire Departments respond to an average of more than 350,000 home fires every year, causing about 2,500 deaths and nearly $7 billion dollars in damages. Sadly, many of these fires could have easily been prevented. Here’s the breakdown on the most common causes of house fires, and simple rules you can adopt in your own home.
#1 – Cooking equipment
47% of fires reported from 2011 – 2015 (NFPA) started in the kitchen. Here are some easy rules to follow to prevent cooking fires:
- Stay near the stove-top while cooking, and never EVER leave oil or grease unattended.
- Never cook when you’re overly tired or sleepy, or your motor functions are otherwise impaired.
- Keep flammable objects (paper, towels, oven mitts, etc.) away from the cook-top while in use.
- Keep children at least 3 feet away from the stove-top.
*** To put out a pan fire, simply slide a lid over the top, and turn off the stove. Allow the pan to cool before handling! ***
#2 – Heating equipment
Heating equipment is the second most common cause of fires, at about 15%. Improper use or lack of maintenance is usually the culprit, which means that most of these types of fires can be easily prevented by taking these simple steps:
- Keep flammable objects (paper, clothing, plastics, etc.) away from the heating unit during use.
- Keep a “child-free” perimeter of at least 3 feet around any fire or source of heat.
- Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected professionally each year.
- Do not leave portable heaters unattended. Turn them off while sleeping or when leaving the area.
- Always use the proper fuel for any heating device.
- Install and maintain carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms, and test them monthly.
- When it comes to the fireplace, make sure you have a sturdy screen to prevent embers from flying into your living area and be sure to let ashes cool before discarding into a metal container.
#3 – Electrical
Nearly 10% of home fires are caused by some electrical fault. Here are some things you can do to help keep your family and home safe:
- Hire a qualified electrician to do any electrical work.
- Plug major appliances, like refrigerators, microwaves, etc. directly into a wall outlet. DO NOT ever use an extension cord or power strip for these items.
- Only plug one heat-producing appliance (coffee-maker, toaster, hair dryer) into any receptacle at one time.
- Keep electrical cords from running across doorways or under rugs or carpets. Only use extension cords temporarily, they are not intended for constant use.
- Call an electrician if you notice any of these problems:
- Frequent blown fuses or tripped breakers
- Tingling feeling when you touch an electrical appliance
- Discolored or warm outlets
- Sparks from an outlet when you plug in an item.
*** Remember: You don’t need a flame for a fire to start. Heat near any flammable object can just as easily start a fire! ***
Honorable Mention – Smoking, Clothes Dryers, and Young Children
Less common, but equally important, these causes can also be prevented with the proper precautions.
Smoking - Fires caused by smoking materials are the leading cause of fire deaths, and the victim is rarely the actual smoker.
- If you smoke, please smoke outside.
- Keep cigarettes, lighters and other smoking materials out of reach of children
- Ensure cigarette butts and ashes are completely extinguished. Water or sand are best.
- Never smoke where oxygen is being used.
Clothes Dryers – Unfortunately, of all dryer-related fires, the leading cause is failure to clean them properly.
- Clean the lint filters before each use, and NEVER use a dryer without a lint filter. Also clean the area around the drum where lint tends to build up.
- Clean and inspect the outdoor vent regularly. If you notice your clothes are taking longer to dry, there may be lint built up in the vent.
- Keep the area around your dryer clear of flammable objects such as boxes or cleaning supplies.
- Clothes that are soiled with a flammable substance should be air-dried outside before regular washing and drying.
Young Children – It’s natural for children to be curious or want to play with fire. However, proper training and rules can keep your family safe:
- Keep matches, lighters, and other fire starters securely out of the reach of children.
- Closely supervise children around any fire or heat source.
- Keep children at least 3 feet from any fire or heat.
- Teach your children about the dangers of fire and how quickly things can escalate beyond their control.
- Lead by example! Always follow fire safety rules, especially in the presence of children.

It’s that time of year when things begin to cool down and all the activities of summer are wrapping up. Take the time to do these simple chores now, so you can relax and enjoy the cooler seasons.
- Clean your gutters – You know, you were going to do it this spring, but it was just too nice outside for chores. Well now’s the time to get those leaves cleaned out to prevent leaks and gutter deterioration. Hey, while you’re up there, take a look around on the roof. Check for missing or damaged shingles which can allow heat to escape, and water to seep in.
- Inspect and clean the furnace – Cleaning your furnace will ensure it’s running at optimal performance in the cold winter months. Be sure to inspect wiring and other moving parts for wear or damage.
- Inspect duct work – When it finally cools off a little, slip under the house or in your attic and check out the ducts. Clean and intact ducts will keep that warm air flowing throughout your home, and without those pesky bugs and viruses.
- Light up the early dark – Replace bulbs in your outside light fixtures, or install new, solar powered lights to help prevent accidents when you’re getting home after dark.
- Check for leaks – Check doors, window sills, and any other drafty areas that may allow your nice warm air to escape to the outside world. Caulk where you can, and throw a draft stopper under your exterior doors.
- Put your ceiling fans in reverse – Most ceiling fans have a switch for this. Switch to a clockwise rotation to push warm air down.
- Inspect and clean the chimney – Clean the soot and smoke from the chimney and check for cracks, gaps or other problems (birds’ nest, etc.). Check the flue for proper function.
- Change your air return filters and smoke or carbon monoxide detector batteries - Clean filters allows better air flow throughout your home so your furnace or central unit won’t have to work as hard.
- Inspect and insulate your pipes – Check for leaks, cracks or weak spots in your plumbing. Freezing temperatures can cause big problems for weak or cracked pipes. Go ahead and throw some insulation around them. You don’t want to be crawling around fixing leaks in those freezing temperatures.
- Let the sunshine in – open your curtains or blinds in the daytime to allow that warm sunshine to help warm your home, but be sure to close them at night to keep the cool night air from seeping in.

Conditions In Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties Might Be Right For Mold
8/2/2018 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties knows what to do if mold grows in your home.
It’s estimated that more than 1 million types of mold exist, yet less than 10 percent have actually been named. This means mold is very common in both indoor and outdoor environments. While mold and humans can sometimes co-exist without issue, there are certain species of mold that can cause health effects for some people.
If the right conditions exist, mold will grow. Those conditions include:
- Water - Different mold types require varying amounts of liquid before growth begins.
- Temperature - Normal indoor temperatures will promote mold growth.
- Time - Initial mold colonizers can take hold within one day after being exposed to an adequate water supply.
Mold growth can occur in any home, so it’s important to keep an eye out for situations that might promote mold activity. Roof/chimney leaks, wet basements, or condensation from ducts that dampen surrounding insulation are just a few examples of issues that make a house a prime target for mold growth.
If you suspect mold in your home, call SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson and McNairy Counties to assess the situation. We have the knowledge, tools and track record to effectively remediate mold in your home or business.

SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson & McNairy Counties Smoke and Soot Cleanup
6/5/2018 (Permalink)
Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your Chester, Hardin, Henderson & McNairy County Home.
Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Smoke and soot facts:
- Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
- Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
- The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Chester, Hardin, Henderson & McNairy Counties will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:
Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber
- Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood
- Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.
Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire
- Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

SERVPRO Named to Entrepreneur's Top 10 Franchise List for 7th Consecutive Year
2/17/2017 (Permalink)
GALLATIN, Tenn. (Grassroots Newswire) January 19, 2016 - SERVPRO, a cleanup and restoration franchise company, maintains its hold on the top ranking in the Restoration Services industry for the 13th consecutive year and moves up to the number four spot overall in the 2016 Franchise 500 rankings from Entrepreneur magazine. This is the seventh consecutive year SERVPRO has been included in the magazine's Top 10 list, standing out in a group of more than 951 franchises that qualified for inclusion in the list.
Entrepreneur magazine's Franchise 500 selection process uses "objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise operation" to help would-be entrepreneurs identify franchise investment opportunities. Some of the most important factors considered by Entrepreneur in developing the list each year are "financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system."
"This recognition affirms that SERVPRO is a dynamic organization that continues to grow and strives to always provide superior support for its franchisees, and by extension its customers," said Sue Steen, SERVPRO Industries, Inc., chief executive officer. "The recognition that the company earns year after year in this prestigious list is confirmation of a commitment to excellence that starts at the top and is evident in the service that each franchisee provides to each and every customer."
According to Steen, a number of differentiators set SERVPRO apart from the competition and fuel the attractiveness of the company to both existing franchisees and would-be entrepreneurs looking for a strong business opportunity. Key among these are:
- SERVPRO's strength as a brand with a national footprint, wide-spread market penetration, laser-focused brand messaging, and the ability to create national partnerships with organizations such as the PGA TOUR and the American Red Cross.
- SERVPRO's commitment to being a learning organization, which keeps training and support at the forefront of the company's culture and philosophy of success and helps franchisees plan, track, and deliver best-in-class services to consumers.
- SERVPRO's focus on continued development and support for proprietary software and systems to allow the company's operational capacity to keep pace with an aggressive growth strategy.
Steen adds, "One of the potential pitfalls of growing too quickly is outpacing your capacity to train and support the franchisees. SERVPRO is a conservative company, and early on we took the time to build a strong system and put the building blocks in place to support growth without sacrificing support to our franchisees." "Today," Steen continues, "as a mature franchise organization with more than 1,700 locations under a single brand, recognition like this makes it clear we are reaping the rewards of having laid a solid foundation and a framework to handle quick growth. As our brand continues to grow, we will continue our winning strategy of supporting and improving upon our infrastructure and investing resources in training and support."
SERVPRO specializes in fire and water cleanup and restoration services, helping both commercial and residential customers recover from property damage emergencies "Like it never even happened."
